Planning a destination wedding? Udaipur must be leading your list for location. Thanks to Bollywood and its big fat Indian weddings, Udaipur should now be declared the official wedding location by the Government of India. But the purpose of choosing Udaipur over any other place is its exquisite beauty.
No doubt it was chosen to be the capital of Mewar. The place still standouts among other tourist destinations. If you are travelling from Delhi to Udaipur by road, it will take you almost 11 hrs to reach the city. The distance is about 650.3 km if you want to do the road trip. Just rent a self- drive car from Delhi and go for it. If not, you can always catch a direct flight from Delhi to Udaipur.
Well if you have already reached the place. Set your mood to embrace every moment that comes to you, because you are in the most romantic city of Rajasthan. You might be getting the vibe by now. But in order to enhance the impression, check-in one of the hotels. None of them are less majestic than a Palace with the architecture or the view or the service. The budget of the hotel will differ from location to location and even the season you visit it. Get a hotel by the lake to relish the view post evening or even choose a hostel if you are on a tight budget.
Begin you day along with the perfume of roses. Gulab Bagh, the garden filled with variety of roses is the largest garden in Rajasthan. The path covered in rose petals, various colourful bushes of roses, massive trees and grass filled with dew drops is the usual sight here. Picture oneself among all this and you would find serenity. After you done with filling up your lungs with the fragrance of fresh blooming roses, head to Lake Pichola. Reach the way on foot as it is just a walking distance from the garden. The lake is known to be the largest manmade lake in the city, build it 1362. The lake is surrounded by hotels, ghats, temples, restaurants and of course the Udaipur Palace.
But before exploring the palace make sure you have your breakfast. It takes you around 2-3 hours to tour the entire Palace. So fill up your stomach at a nearby caf� or restaurant. Udaipur being a tourist place, serves variety of cuisines. From little French caf�s to German bakeries, to proper Indian Breakfast places. �Varity is the spice of life� and Indians love their spice. Well now that you are no more hunger-struck, progress towards the Udaipur City Palace. The first things that would catch your attention on reaching the place is its enormity and yes, James Bond. To all the people who are crazy about James Bond movies, they might recollect that the 1983 James Bond movie Octopussy was filmed there. The Palace is a fusion of Rajasthani and Mughal architecture. The entire palace is built with granite and marble. There are intricate paintings and silver work that would draw your attention.
You would surely come out of the palace hungry and exhausted. Have your lunch at the famous Natraj Hotel or the Ambrai restaurant for authentic Rajasthani food. If you loved the palace, you must visit other very famous places like the Saheliyon ki Bari, Bagore-ki-Haveli, Vintage Car Museum, Karni Mata Temple up the hill through the ropeway. The hill top will give u a panoramic view of the entire city.
In case your thirst to explore is still not quenched, take a horse ride along one the lakes, go motorboating and savour the scenic sunset. You have wide variety of things that may engage in. Do not forget to watch the traditional Puppet show at Bharatiya Lok Kala Mandir.
At the end of the day, say goodbye to your fatigue by some shopping at the local markets. The Hathi Potli Bazar, Bada Bazar, Chetak Circle, Babu Bazar, Rajasthali will have everything you need for yourself and for family back home.
You will surely leave Udaipur with a smile in your face and heavy heart. Make sure to take plenty of pictures at the Palaces and the garden, beside the lake so that you could always re-live your Udaipur memories.
